GAVIN EDMONDS

RUNNING COACH & PERSONAL TRAINER

A prolific musician in early life playing piano and trumpet, he wasn’t always sporty but during a 21 year career as an Editor at Sky UK discovered the gym treadmill aged 29 and was instantly hooked! What followed was a 20 year deluge of marathons, half marathons, fell running, altitude trail events, triathlons including full Ironman, cross country/track leagues & championships, road running stage races, high altitude training, cycle sportives, long distance hiking including several routes of the Camino Santiago de Compostela, Everest Base Camp, Mount Toubkal, Mount Snowdon (don’t mention Crib Goch!).

As well as his philosophy that seeks to marry the emotive and the scientific, his other big thing is CHANGE! Whether changing mindset, technical competency or simply changing the pace of a run to lift a session so the body and mind adapt positively and come back stronger. In 2015 he made a big change himself leaving media and augmented his Athletics Coaching with Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer qualifications to bring together his running coaching with the fitness industry and work with all types of people seeking health, happiness and sporting goals!

WE ASKED GAVIN A FEW QUESTIONS

1. What do you love most about being a trainer?

Everyone has a superpower. You might not find it out immediately in a first meeting but it always comes out and get goosebumps when I recognise it! From training someone who wants to lose a lot of weight and thinks they're not good at lifting but you find out they did rock climbing for 10 years or someone who wonders if they can handle posture or technique drills and they break it you they did fencing from age 13-18! Everyone has something in their past that is of use, you must find out what that is and put it to use

2. How do you keep your clients motivated?

You need to always focus on goals and keep clients engaged with the process. Some people want data, others can't stand listening to numbers as they regard that as your job! (it is..) You communicate using the best way your client will undertsand while aligning them to the objective.

3. Why work with Be Fearsome?

Tom is genuinely an inspiration and the Hyde Park location second to none.

4. What's your one random fact or claim to faim?

I have played on a top ten single.
