It's important to understand the likely outcomes for each age range though. We have a range of age-appropriate activities at all times that are optional for you and your family. 7 and under years: A fun, immersive experience where they can dip their toes in all the activities. From fun and nature in the woods to cooking marshmallows over the open fire, or playing games with others. Lots to do and fun to be had. 8-14 years: An in-depth experience that fosters education, adventure and fun. Expect them to come away with many new skills and the desire to learn more. From expedition skills to leadership concepts, there's so much to learn and fun to be had. 15+ years: Taking things to the next level, they ill have the opportunity to try their new skills independently. We have special tasks for these young budding minds to tackle to keep them engaged and challenged. All activities will be available for all ages. Above is simply to give an idea of what we feel each age range can be expected to get from this adventure. It will be down to the individual and desires of you as a guardian.
-
Will there be WIFI?There will definitely be no WIFI. Although we encourage the use of phones as a safety device and to snap happy family memories we are trying to have a technological detox. This encourages socialising and helps leaves stresses behind. People are asked to take phone calls if they have to out of earshot of others and not to use phones in front of others
-
Can I smoke or vape?To give the best nature experience possible, our policy to this is the same as phones. It should be done where it does not effect others. So away from communal areas and team events.
-
What about Covid-19?1. If the government has the country on lockdown you will receive a full refund. 2. Tents will be distanced apart giving each family its own space so social spacing can be easily respected. 3. You can request your own guide (at an extra cost) if you wish to keep your family away from everyone. 4. Communal areas will be cleaned regularly but there is no need to use them apart from the toilets.
-
What about my childs nighttime routine? On Friday afternoon, you're welcome to arrive from 1200. The main activities will start around 5pm and they will be simple and short. Each of the tents will be pitched some 100m from the main command tent, allowing for privacy and a quiet stay. You're welcome to keep to your own routine and not be disturbed by the activity centre or other escapees.
-
How do we get there? The easiest way is to drive and it's around two hours from London. However, you can also get the train to Wareham taking around two hours fifteen minutes direct. It's then only a five minute drive to the campsite. You can either get a taxi or we may be able to pick you up.
-
What are the meals? The meals are a mixture of expedition packet meals and locally sourced produce by our catering partners. Friday PM - Expedition dinner Saturday AM - Expdeition breakfast Saturday PM - Locally sourced cooked dinner + fire cooked snacks (Pizza or similar and simple foods cooked on the fire as part of the tutorial) Sunday AM - Locally sourced hot baguettes or porridge We aim to cater for all so please do let us know your requirements and we will do our upmost to accomodate them. Plrease note lunch isn't included but can be bought locally.
-
What are the tents and bedding? As this adventure is designed to replicate wild expeditions, we have based it on two people per expedition tent (3 man). However, we have some options for upgrades to bigger family and stand up tents. Again, sleeping is on expedition style rollmatts. We do have options for airbeds and campbeds. Or you can bring your own. Bedding is to be provided by you as this is the most hygenic way. Sleeping bags or duvets are perfect. This allows you to choose your own level of comfort. All add ons are purely at cost, we don't make any profit on these items.
-
How do we cook food? The only meals you need to think about cooking are the expedition meals on Friday night and Saturday morning. This is part of the tutorials of how to cook on expeditions. We provide expedition cookers for this. However, it's simply a case of boiling water and adding it to the expedition meal packets. You will get chance to use a variety of cooker types.
-
Can we bring our own comfort items?Sure thing. You can bring pretty much whatever you need to keep you family comfortable and happy. This is designed to be an escape and ‘expedition experience’. However, comfort is important as that will impact your enjoyment.
