TIME SAPPING ROUTINES. 

HOW LEADERS WASTE TIME

The biggest problem I hear from Leaders is their lack of time. And boy I’m with you.

 

The more you progress in your career, the more time is taken from your finite cup until it feels like there's nothing left to invest in you, your body and your mind. Trust me, I’ve been there too!

 

This happens to all Leaders at some point in their careers.

 

Physical and mental wellness has the reputation that it takes an incredible amount of time to achieve. This adds more stress when either trying to cram it all in or hearing what you ‘should’ be doing.

 

Extensive routines in and out of the gym and hours prepping your food.

 

This is simply not true.

 

Sure, it takes a little effort, I won’t lie about that.

 

And, if you work smart and not hard, you’ll see how much you can do with little or zero time cost.

THE NTCE PROTOCOL

AND HOW YOU'LL FIND TIME YOU DIDNT KNOW YOU HAD

The NTCE (Net Time Cost Equilivent) protocol looks first at picking the low-hanging fruit.

 

Actions that cost no time to implement OR actually give you time back.

 

 

 

Small things like drinking enough water, taking the right supplements, cold showers, 16:8 fasts, eating the right kinds of foods 80% of the time and micro-meditations are within all our capability with no extra time cost.

 

Then we move on to the time-sapping things leaders do every day that add little or no value and cut these out.

 

We work on changing habits to provide an NTCE Surplus to be added to your 20 minutes-a-day investment OR to be used as your 20 minutes-a-day investment meaning an overall ZERO NET CHANGE in your time.

TIME IS VALUABLE,

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING
AS A LEADER

When I ask leaders what the MOST valuable and vital thing to being a leader in their business or professional career. Some say money. Many say time.

 

If I could give you all the money you ever wanted. Then gave you every second of every day to do what you want, would you be happy?

 

Sure, it sounds great!

 

BUT... there’s a caveat.

 

You have zero energy to use either of these two things.

 

Still sound like a good deal?

 

The one thing I see from Leaders is they manage to achieve financial freedom.

 

Some manage to achieve an element of time freedom.

 

But... Most sacrifice this for energy. So they never truly get to use them.

ATOMIC ACTION

HOW LEADERS LET THE ATOMS DO THE WORK

When it comes to finding more energy, people often look for the magic pill or a grand gesture that will have them jumping out of bed and going all day like a Duracell bunny.

 

Wouldn’t it be great if this was the case? I know I’d take it!

 

Some try the supplement route. Some try the nutritional route. And some try the fitness route. None of these are wrong. However, often, one thing alone, one ‘grand gesture’ doesn’t only live up to its expectation, it's unrealistic to continue and ends up using more energy than it generates.

 

Fit2Lead works on the small things first that lead to big things. Atomic Actions that build just like atoms build everything around us.

 

There are no ‘magic pills’ or ‘grand gestures’. There are no crazy routines or strict nutrition plans.

 

By making marginal gains through almost unnoticeable actions in each area of the Four Pillars Of Wellness (Move, Fuel, Live, Think) you can set a domino effect

WHY LEADERS PUT THEMSELVES LAST. 

AND HOW IT REDUCES THEIR POTENTIAL AND IMPACT

As leaders, we tend to sacrifice everything for the benefit of our team and the mission. It happens all the time.

Don't get me wrong, this type of subservient leadership isn't a bad trait. My leadership style is to put the needs of others and the greater good before my own.

However, there’s a limit to this and in actual fact, it often means we as leaders are not being as effective as we could be and therefore not actually putting others first.

How often have you sacrificed your own wellbeing, time, energy, workout, nutrition and mental health for those you lead?

I know personally this happens ALL THE TIME.

 

This leads to us operating at 50% of our actual capacity and giving all of this 50% away.

THE OXYGEN MASK PRINCIPLE

LEADING YOURSELF FIRST TO LEAD OTHERS BETTER

This is exactly why we adopted the Oxygen Mask Principle as a key pillar for Fit2Lead.

 

We’ve all been on a plane and during the safety briefing (yes, I appreciate we tune this out 90% of the time). They explain that if the cabin depressurises you should put your oxygen mask on first before helping others.

 

Why? Because if you pass out from being starved of oxygen then you can’t help others who rely on you.

 

The same applies to leadership. Without oxygen (time, energy and focus in this case), you’ll be gasping for air and eventually pass out (ok, that may be a little dramatic and you get my point).

 

Lack of oxygen (keep with me on the analogy) leads to not performing at your best as a leader, partner, parent, friend, sibling etc AND can lead to burnout.

 

This is EXACTLY what we do in Fit2Lead and the Oxygen Mask Principle.

 

Through this ‘you first’ approach (Oxygen Mask Principle), we use the first two pillars (NTCE Protocol + Atomic Actions) to make you a happier, more energetic, healthier, more productive and more effective leader in every aspect of your life.

 

Time/energy/focus spent on yourself is the same as keeping an aeroplane serviced and fueled (here comes the analogy again!) instead of running it into the ground and operating at 60%.

AND HOW DID I WIND UP HERE WRITING THIS

Hey, I'm Tom, the driving force behind Fit2Lead and Be Fearsome. Our mission, based in Central London with a global online reach is blending wellness, team-building, and leadership coaching.

 

Having crossed the 40-year milestone, I've experienced firsthand the challenges leaders face in balancing career growth, family commitments, and personal wellness. Gone are the days when I could devote hours to training for Ironmans.

My journey has evolved from the disciplined life of a Royal Marines Commando, through the high-stakes world of Hostile Environment Security working in Anti-Piracy around the coast of Africa, to running the UK's largest BootCamp.

This diverse experience, combined with my expertise as a Master Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach, Sleep Stress Management, Mental Health First Aid Instructor and Mountain Leader, shapes my approach to wellness and leadership.

Fit2Lead isn't about extreme fitness; it's about leading oneself to lead others.

It's about realising your potential to be a resilient, energised leader.

Look, I get it. As a leader, you’re meant to have all the answers. It’s part of the brave face we put on to keep the ship steady and ensure the people we lead are confident in our decision process.

I’ve been there, literally keeping the ship steady off the coast of Somalia when pirate boats were approaching at speed. 30 crew and team looking at me for the answers while I’m thinking ‘sh#t’ what do we do?! (while keeping cool, of course)

There’s a time for that role. And if you’re here to do the same with me then it’s not going to work.

And that's ok. Perhaps you do know it all. If so, GO AND DO IT! Let me know how you get on.

If you’re toying with the idea that something isn’t quite right and you ‘think’ that ‘maybe’ you ‘should’, ‘perhaps’, ‘someday’ do ‘something’, ‘possibly’ then you’re just not there yet.

And again, that’s ok. There’s a time and place for everyone.

You need to arrive at that time and place yourself. I can’t help you with that one.

Lead yourself and make that decision when the time is right. My advice... don’t leave it too long and when you make it, MAKE IT.

Fit2Lead is about leading yourself, first. It’s designed to give you all the tools, information, accountability and support for YOU to make the right decisions for YOU. I’ll be with you every step of the way and give you everything you need. Just like executive coaching, it’s about you taking action and me helping to guide you.

I am not going to sit here and tell another leader what they should or shouldn't be doing.

Why? It doesn’t work and you won’t listen after a couple of weeks. Let's be honest...
